Abstrak

Psychoanalysis is a major approach to psychology that focuses on an in-depth understanding of human mental dynamics and their influence on individual behaviour and experience. The theory, introduced by Sigmund Freud, has undergone significant development and criticism from various scholars, including Carl Jung and Melanie Klein. This research aims to explore psychoanalytic counselling based on Freud's views and its relevance in the context of modern psychology. The purpose of this research is to explore and understand the various perspectives and theories that exist regarding psychoanalytic counselling, focusing on Freud's contribution to the understanding of human behaviour and the counselling techniques used. The research method used is a qualitative method with a literature review approach. The research analyses and summarises relevant literature sources, including Freud's original works, scholarly articles, and case studies that discuss psychoanalytic theory and counselling practice. Data was collected from sources related to the development of psychoanalytic theory and its application in counselling. The results show that Freud's psychoanalytic theory emphasises the importance of past experiences in shaping individual behaviour. While psychoanalysis has undergone criticism and updates, Freud's views remain relevant in understanding the complexity of human behaviour. The implications of this study suggest that the psychoanalytical approach can provide important insights for counselling practitioners in helping individuals deal with psychological problems as well as improving their interpersonal relationships.
